Clinical Trials/Observational Studies
Clinical trials and observational studies are central to advancing care for people with vascular anomalies. The VASCA Working Group actively supports and participates in research studies designed to evaluate treatments, understand how conditions develop over time, and improve patient outcomes.
VASE Trial — Vascular Anomaly-Sirolimus Europe
The VASE trial is a phase III multicentre study evaluating the efficacy and safety of sirolimus in vascular anomalies that do not respond to standard care. The trial opened in January 2016 and is ongoing, with preliminary results published in 2023. It is coordinated across multiple VASCA expert centres in Europe.
NARRATIVE — Natural History, Quality of Life and Patient-Reported Outcomes in Vascular Anomalies
The NARRATIVE project is a 36-month European observational study launched in 2025. It aims to build a comprehensive patient registry for vascular anomalies, enrolling approximately 1,200 participants across seven European countries. The study focuses on understanding how vascular anomalies progress over time and how they affect quality of life, using validated patient-reported outcome measures.
