The VASCERN Vascular Anomalies (VASCA) Working Group has published a new booklet on pregnancy, family planning and vascular anomalies. This easy-to-read guide is designed for people living with a vascular anomaly (VA) who are thinking about pregnancy, already pregnant, or looking for safe contraceptive options.
A patient-friendly guide to pregnancy, family planning and vascular anomalies
This easy-to-read booklet explains how different types of vascular anomalies—such as venous malformations, arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), or PROS conditions—may affect pregnancy and family planning. It offers practical advice for both women and men living with a vascular anomaly (VA).

What you’ll find in the booklet
This booklet covers:
- How your specific type of VA may affect pregnancy and delivery
- Which contraceptives are recommended for your condition
- Guidance on medication use before and during pregnancy
- What to know about delivery planning and postpartum care
- Important advice for men living with a VA and planning to have children
The booklet also highlights the importance of consulting an expert centre for vascular anomalies before making any medical or pregnancy-related decisions. If needed, your doctor can also request support through the Clinical Patient Management System (CPMS).
