We are pleased to share that the latest VASCERN webinar, “Varicose Veins in Vascular EDS – Occurrence, Symptoms, and Treatment Options,” is now available to watch on YouTube. This session provides clear, expert-backed information for patients with Vascular Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (vEDS), their families, and caregivers on how varicose veins develop, the risks they pose, and the safest ways to manage them.

Expert Guidance from Dr. Michael Frank

The webinar is presented by Dr. Michael Frank, a Cardiologist and Specialist in Vascular Medicine at the French National Referral Centre for Vascular Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, Hôpital Européen Georges Pompidou in Paris, France. Dr. Frank is also the Chair of the Medium-Sized Arteries Working Group (MSA-WG) within VASCERN and has extensive experience in treating patients with vEDS.

In this webinar, Dr. Frank covers:

  • What varicose veins are and how they form
  • Why varicose veins occur
  • Symptoms and complications, including repeated vein ruptures
  • How varicose veins are diagnosed
  • Management options, from lifestyle measures to medical treatments
  • Available intervention approaches for varicose veins in vEDS

The session concludes with a Q&A, where Dr. Frank answers patient-submitted questions and addresses practical concerns about varicose veins in vEDS.

Understanding Varicose Veins in vEDS

Varicose veins are common in the general population, but for people with Vascular Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (vEDS), they can pose additional challenges and risks. Fragile blood vessels mean that even small changes in vein structure can lead to vein rupture, and hemosiderin deposits, making proper management essential.

Unlike in the general population, treatment decisions for varicose veins in vEDS require special caution. Some standard procedures may not be safe, and each patient needs an individual approach to minimize risks. Dr. Frank explains what treatments are considered for varicose veins in vEDS.
