The EURORDIS Open Academy Schools will take place in Barcelona from 25–28 May 2026. Two programmes will be held in parallel: the School on Medicines Research & Development and the School on Scientific Innovation & Translational Research. Both combine specific and joint sessions, with a focus on patient engagement, leadership, and networking.

The training includes an off-site visit to a research facility or hospital, direct contact with faculty and EURORDIS staff, and opportunities to connect with patient advocates and researchers. The Schools are delivered in English in a blended format, with e-learning modules, pre-training webinars, and four days of intensive in-person sessions.

Applications opened on 8 September 2025 and will close on 17 October 2025. Apply here.

EURORDIS will also run in 2026 the second edition of its online course Navigating Rare Disease Research: Data, Ethics, and AI in Europe. This training, spread across six months, will provide 20 rare disease advocates worldwide with skills to address data management, ethical issues, and AI in research. The programme will include 6–8 hours of virtual learning and one in-person training day. Applications will open later in 2026.

The Open Academy programmes are provided free of charge, with accommodation and meals covered for participants. Alumni continue to benefit from a dedicated network offering additional resources, training, and opportunities to contribute to research and policy.
