CPMS 2.0 Mobile App Launch

In June 2025, the Clinical Patient Management System (CPMS) reached a significant milestone with the public release of the new CPMS 2.0 mobile apps. Available on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, these mobile apps introduce a new level of accessibility and functionality for healthcare professionals across Europe.

Designed to support the ongoing work of the European Reference Networks (ERNs), the apps enable medical professionals to securely access and contribute to clinical case discussions from any location, facilitating improved collaboration and faster decision-making in the treatment of rare and complex conditions.

The introduction of the CPMS 2.0 mobile app represents a strategic upgrade to the ERN digital toolkit. It ensures that core CPMS functions—such as accessing case data, contributing to discussions, and managing consultations—are now available through smartphones and tablets.

This mobile extension aligns with the ERN’s mission to provide timely and expert cross-border healthcare by ensuring that clinical expertise is not limited by physical location or device constraints.

The CPMS 2.0 mobile app is available now and can be downloaded from the following platforms:

Core features of the CPMS 2.0 mobile app

The CPMS 2.0 mobile app is built with functionality and security at its core. Key features include:

  • Advanced Search Tools: Enables faster access to case files, clinical discussions, and relevant documentation.
  • Audit Logs: Enhances transparency and accountability with a clear record of all user actions within the platform.
  • Streamlined Meeting Agendas: Improves planning and execution of virtual case meetings through better agenda integration.
  • Enhanced Usability for Admins and Assistants: Offers tailored interfaces and workflows for support roles, improving overall efficiency.

These features ensure that ERN members can engage in patient care discussions seamlessly, even when working remotely.

Advantages for ERN members and clinical teams

The CPMS 2.0 mobile app introduces several practical benefits for clinical teams:

  • Greater Accessibility: Enables secure access to clinical cases and ongoing discussions from mobile devices.
  • Operational Efficiency: Reduces delays in communication and speeds up case reviews and decision-making.
  • Streamlined User Experience: Simplifies tasks for administrative roles and clinical support staff.
  • Compliance and Security: Built with GDPR compliance and strict data protection protocols to safeguard patient information.

This evolution of CPMS technology directly supports ERN objectives of improving rare disease care through streamlined collaboration and knowledge-sharing.

Integration with CPMS 2.0 desktop release 4.2

The mobile app launch was complemented by a new update to the desktop platform—CPMS 2.0 Release 4.2. The latest release includes:

  • A more intuitive advanced search interface
  • Comprehensive audit log capabilities
  • Improved meeting management tools
  • A restructured user interface for assistants and administrative users

Together, these updates enhance the platform’s ability to serve as a secure, efficient hub for remote clinical collaboration across all ERNs.

Future development and open-source expansion

The CPMS 2.0 project is part of a long-term digital transformation strategy within the ERN ecosystem. Over the next three years, the CPMS platform will continue evolving, with plans to launch an open-source repository and associated community.

This development will allow broader adaptation of CPMS technologies in different healthcare contexts and promote innovation through community-driven enhancements. It also represents a commitment to sustainability, transparency, and continuous improvement in digital health infrastructure across Europe.
