A new two-stage call for proposals titled “Establishing novel approaches to improve clinical trials for rare and ultra-rare diseases” was released on July 27, 2023, under the Horizon Europe Framework Programme (HORIZON).
The objective of projects initiated under this theme goes beyond simply developing the capacity and capability for pioneering trial designs. They are also expected to devise solutions to bridge scientific gaps and overcome technical and operational challenges. Furthermore, these projects are encouraged to seek collaboration and synergies with relevant existing initiatives, with the aim of creating a dedicated and sustainable infrastructure tailored to rare diseases.
This project’s primary goal is to drive innovation and streamline the drug development process for rare diseases characterized by significant unmet medical needs. This will be achieved by focusing on clinical trials conducted for small populations and groups of diseases that share common features.
